Artist Spotlight

I recently caught up with David Tucker to discuss his newest song, Break It Too. Break It Too is a relatable story of a disappointing and unreciprocated love but not allowing the person you gave your heart to the power to break it. Driver Williams and long-time collaborator Jake Saghi wrote Break It Too with David Tucker. David has a new support team since we last spoke and he is as motivated as ever to release new music and he is set to release his EP in the fall. David Tucker said he has videos in the works for each song and acoustic versions for those 6 tracks as well.

Chorus of Break It Too

"You said I’m everything that you wanted

But here I am and you don’t want it

You said I’m everything that you needed

But I guess it’s inconvenient

To say you love me and mean it

But you can’t give me a reason

If it ain’t me you’re looking for then baby who

Cause you can’t have my heart and break it too"

David Tucker moved to Nashville from his hometown in Kentucky at 19 years old, eager to start a full-time music career. After that initial move, he worked welding skyscrapers during the day while playing shows at night.

About a year ago I interviewed David following the release of the singles Water it Down and What You Think About This Song. David had been recovering from a terrible car accident, which was re-enacted in the video for Water It Down(review here) I asked him to share a few details about his recovery and found out his lower leg was rebuilt with titanium. The only thing he said he notices is the difference in the size of his ankles and the pressure in his knee when there is a storm.

David Tucker divides his time between writing, producing, and playing shows. David has had some other opportunities to use his platform and talents to influence the community of young people. David recently spoke at the Tennessee D.A.R.E. conference and performed for the attendees. He also delivered a speech at a D.A.R.E. high school graduation and was deeply touched by the stories shared by the students and by watching them make the D.A.R.E. pledge. As a young child, David attended D.A.R.E. conferences with his grandpa, who was a D.A.R.E. officer, creating a full-circle moment for him.

Anthony Bonnette was born and raised in Lone Star, Texas, most known for his song Funny Man, produced by Merle Haggard and Toby Keith, and covered by Rodney Carrington in 2009 for Capital Records Nashville. These 2 new song releases follow Lone Star Steel which reached over 2.1 million listeners and has over 120K streams.

Earlier this Spring, I spoke with Anthony Bonnette about his newly released single Lion Tamer, a song describing the passionate relationship between a masculine man- "rough as 40 grit and hard as nails, wild as the wind in a pirate's sails" and the woman- "Meek and mild as Amazing Grace, all dandelions and ribbons and lace. "

Anthony described himself as a movie buff paying close attention to movie lines. After hearing that, it was no surprise to learn that the inspiration for Lion Tamer came from a line in the film, Second Hand Lion, which Robert Duvall delivers, "I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, killed many men and loved only one woman with a passion a flea like you could never begin to understand.”

Galveston is the backdrop to this next song, Do You One Better about a young romance sparked on the beach.

"Met you down at the coast last summer Gulf wind blowing your hair

standing right where he left you

Crying underneath the pier

we sat in the sand

and watched a couple sailboats sail

I had a shoulder

and you had a story to tell...."

This danceable love story unfolds with the hopes of a fairytale kind of love,

"Girl, I can do you one better, stay with you forever and you'll never be lonely again"

The creative process is an intriguing concept and I appreciate the transparency Anthony Bonnette shared with me in his process. Anthony said he starts the day by rehearsing the known lines and phrasing of the songs he is working through. To flush out ideas, he takes his dogs out on a walk but hums or works on the lyrics in one way or another the entire day until he feels satisfied with the result. Bonnette said he enjoys studying poetry as a way to write metaphorically and representatively because he is otherwise a literal thinker and speaker.

Thank you, Anthony Bonnette, for sharing your love of music and movies. I am working on my top 50 movie list ... In a Country Minute

Micheal Lee is not a stranger to the writing or performing world of music. He began singing in church at 14, writing songs at 16, and singing in nightclubs at 17, making $100 a night. Michael Lee reminisced with me about how his dad had to get him into the venues because he was underage. Michael Lee cut his first demo songs at 19/20 years old. He comes from a family full of performing artists. Michael Lee’s parents were part of a gospel group in the 80s and 90s. His granddad and great-uncles were in a country band in the 1960s touring the southern states. Michael Lee’s family reunions are full of family members singing and playing instruments together.

Michael Lee grew up in the northwest corner of Georgia, a couple of hours from Nashville. Michael Lee and a friend he met through a family member casually played their guitars and sang while at a BBQ event for a hunting club at a dove shoot. It didn’t take long for them to gather a crowd and soon it became an event in itself gathering 300 or so people in the middle of a cornfield. Grammy Award Winning producer Wilbur C. Rimes was hunting at the club and heard them playing. Wilbur C. Rimes took an interest and brought the duo to Rosewood Studios in Tyler, TX  to cut a 3-song demo and then they returned the following year to finish the album, kicking off his career. Michael Lee began writing with many A-listed songwriters like Pat Alger (Nashville Hall of Fame, Georgia Music Hall of Fame, and hit songwriter on Garth Brooks's Unanswered Prayers, The Thunder Rolls, etc.) Michael Lee's catalog is full of Christian country songs and relatable country music with a 90's country vibe and rhythm.

Michael Lee continued to write music and recorded several projects with Red Hen Records as he took a break from touring to be at home with his family. He has been releasing new music, gracing the radio with his deep country baritone vocals and charming lyrics. He is signed to Private Label Artists and beginning a radio tour with tour dates added often. Following his Feb '24 release, The Well,  Michael Lee’s most recent song paints a picture very true to his own life and marriage. Showing the thankfulness of marriage and commitment, Loving Me Comes Easy To You was co-written with label executive Randy Smith from Private Label Artists. Loving Me Comes Easy To You was produced by Diamond Rio’s Micah Schweinsberg and Dana Williams. You can find Loving Me Comes Easy to You on the album Backdated which is available wherever you get music. Find Michael Lee on social media as michaelleetunes and by clicking the buttons below.

Thank you for your stories and commitment to your craft and for sharing your faith in Jesus.

Until we chat again....In A Country Minute.
